OFFICIAL RULES FOR RED HACKER BASKETBALL 1. Game time is forfeit time (tournament director’s discretion). Forfeit score is 16-0 for 3on3 & 4on4 and 20-0 for 5on5. 2. Games first possession will be determined by a coin flip. 3. Jump ball will go to the defense. 4. Top, sides and bottom of backboard are in-bounds. 5. Back stop of Red Hacker portable basketball goals are out-of-bounds. 6. All fouls and violations are called by referees for all divisions. 7. The referee’s call is final. 8. Two (2) 30 second timeouts are allowed per game (if time permits). 9. Substitutions may be made during dead ball and time-out situations. Players are not required to check in with the referee to make substitutions. 10. Free Throw Situations: a) On and after the 7th team foul, shoot one free throw. b) Fouls in the act of shooting: If the shot is missed: one free throw for 1 point attempts and two free throws for 2 point attempts, but; If the shot is made: scoring team is awarded the point(s) and no free throws will be taken unless they are in the bonus. c) If a foul shot is missed: 3on3: ball must be taken back behind the two point line by the rebounding team. (Two feet behind the line.) 5on5: all rebounds off a foul shot are played as in regulation basketball. d) Officials may call a technical foul due to improper behavior, intentional fouling, or improper hanging on the rim. A technical foul will result in a free throw followed by possession of the ball by the opponent of the team/player being charged the foul. e) Games may be decided at the foul line. All calls are made by Red Hacker officials and free throws will be played as outlined above. 11. (3-on-3 only) – Any possession must be passed in from the top of the court with ball being checked by the defense. After a score, the ball must (1) change possession, and (2) be checked by defense before play begins. ON EVERY CHANGE OF POSSESSION the ball must be taken back beyond the 2 point line, both feet, NO EXCEPTION. If a violation occurs, offensive team will receive the ball up top. 12. SCOREKEEPING WILL BE HANDLED AS FOLLOWS: 1 point for every basket scored inside the 2 point line. 2 points for every basket scored outside the 2 point line. 1 point scored for each free throw made. 13. IN THE EVENT OF IMPROPER CONDUCT BY PLAYERS OR SPECTATORS: Red Hacker and its referees reserve the right to (A) stop the game for a period of time, (B) have a player sit out for a period of time, (C) eject a player for the rest of the game and if need be, for the rest of the tournament, (D) stop the game completely with one or both teams being thrown out of the tournament (E) call intentional foul, offended team receives one free throw and possession, (F) call flagrant foul, offended team receives one free throw and possession, or (G) parents and/or spectators may be asked to leave the premises for improper conduct. 14. REMINDER on RED HACKER OFFICIATING: Referee calls are final. Only questions about rule interpretations may require clarification by Red Hacker management. Disputes and matters not addressed or clarified in this rules summary will be settled by applying standard Michigan High School rules. 15. SCORING IN THE RED HACKER
TIME LIMITS: 3on3 - There is a 24-minute time limit. In the event the score is tied, the game will go into sudden death overtime with a coin flip to determine possession. (First team to score wins.)
4on4 & 5on5 - There is a 26 minute time limit. · The first half will be played with a running clock that will not be stopped for any reason. Up to (2) 30-second time-outs may be used in the first half, but will not stop the clock. · When the first team reaches a score of 10 or more points. Halftime is 2 minutes long. · The second half will be played with a running clock until the final two minutes. During the final 2 minutes, the clock will be stopped in standard “dead ball” circumstances. Up to (2) 30-second time-outs may be used in the second half, but only (1) may be employed during the final two minutes. Only during the final two minutes will a time out stop the clock. · Upon reaching the time limit, in the event the score is tied, the game will go into sudden death overtime with a coin flip to determine possession. (First team to score wins.)
ENTRY FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE - After the late registration deadline on the Sunday before the tournament, entry fees become non-refundable. PROPER IDENTIFICATION REQUIRED We reserve the right to verify any player’s age. Intentionally providing inaccurate information is grounds for disqualification of an entire team. Each player is encouraged to carry personal identification, preferably a valid drivers license for 16 yrs olf age and older. Under sixteen a birth certificate, school id etc. are preferred. Red Hacker reserves the right to make all judgments on this matter. UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES We reserve the right to reduce the number of rescheduled games or shorten games, due to unforeseen circumstances (foul weather / power interruptions / determination of local officials). In the event of such circumstances, Red Hacker management may elect to take a break in the action for a short period of time, reduce length of games, or change to a single elimination tournament (where applicable). MERGING OF BRACKETS Red Hacker reserves the right to merge junior brackets with one age group higher, in the event a low number of teams enter in a given bracket. APPROPRIATE PLACEMENT WITHIN ESTABLISHED AGE DIVISIONS Each team member’s age must fall within the age division. Should a team cross the age division, a decision based upon height, weight and playing ability will determine the team’s division. All decisions of Red Hacker officials are final. Player’s age the day of the tournament designates his/her age division. Any mixed gender teams will be required to play in the boy’s/men’s division. Players may only appear on one roster within the same division. A player may appear on more than one roster as long as they are not in the same division. Any scheduling conflicts that result for players appearing on more than one roster are not the responsibility of Red Hacker. AWARDS Divisions may be scheduled either as double elimination or round-robin. Each player on the 1st and 2nd place teams in each division will receive custom Red Hacker trophies. Double elimination divisions include a Dogg House consolation bracket for teams losing their first two games. Winners of the consolation bracket will receive t-shirts as an award. |
